Navigating CatCourses

CatCourses is new to all first-year students. To help your students learn to use CatCourses, consider the teaching tips below. If you would like to share a method you use, please send it to Adriana Signorini (asignorini@ucmerced.edu).

Teaching Tips:

  • Use a few CatCourses tools routinely. To reduce confusion and optimize select tools, remove any non-essential tools from your CatCourses menu.
  • Early in semester, use simple assignments or mini-lessons to develop student facility with key functions related to the course.
  • Explain the rationale for technological literacy in your course or discipline.
  • Define roles and expectations for technology use. How will this tool enable faculty or peer feedback on student learning? What are student responsibilities? What role will the instructor play in interactive sessions or new activities?
